Birmingham, AL – Former Hofstra men's lacrosse attackman Josh Byrne and Team Canada took home the gold medal at The World Games 2022 from PNC Field in Birmingham, Alabama.

Utilizing the new, high-intensity Sixes discipline for The World Games 2022, Team Canada bested Team USA, 23-9, to win the gold medal. Byrne finished the game second on the team with five goals, adding to his competition-leading tally of 21 goals. Byrne also finished The World Games 2022 with nine assists for Team Canada, giving him 28 points to lead all players at The World Games.

Sixes is a fast-paced version of the sport played on a smaller field (70 x 36 meters), with fewer players (6-v-6), a condensed game length (four 8-minute quarters) and a 30-second shot clock.

Ryan Tierney scored one goal for Team USA in the gold medal game as he and the Americans took home silver. Tierney finished his time in Birmingham with seven goals and one assist for eight points, placing him in a tie for fifth on the team for goals scored.

Zachary Pall suited up at The World Games, and the former Hofstra midfielder played in all four games for Team Israel and found the back of the net seven times and assisted three times to finish third on the team with 10 points. Team Israel finished eighth in the eight-team competition, falling to Team Germany in the 7th/8th Place Game.

Byrne was a member of the Hofstra men's lacrosse team in 2016 and 2017 and was a USILA Third Team All-American and the CAA Offensive Player of the Year in 2017 while finishing his Hofstra career with 111 points on 71 goals and 40 assists in 29 games. Tierney was a five-year member of the Pride from 2017-2021, and he finished his electric career as the program's all-time leader for points (251) and goals (164) in a career while earning USILA Second Team All-America and CAA Offensive Player of the Year honors as a senior in 2021. Pall spent two seasons in Hempstead from 2011-12 after transferring from Quinnipiac, and he recorded 15 ground balls and one caused turnover in 21 appearances for the Pride.
