GREENSBORO, N.C. – USA Swimming announced on Saturday the appointment of Texas Swimming and Diving Men's head coach Eddie Reese and Women's head coach Carol Capitani as U.S. assistant coaches for the 2022 FINA World Championships set for June 18-July 3 in Budapest, Hungary.
Reese guided the Longhorns to a second-place finish at the 2022 NCAA Championships, the 13th runner-up finish in program history and the 35th top-three finish. He has served as the head coach of the U.S. Olympic men's swimming team three times (1992, 2004, 2008), and as an Olympic assistant four times (1988, 1996, 2000, 2012). With his appointment for this summer's championships, we will be serving as an assistant on the U.S. staff for the first time since 2017.
Capitani led Texas to a runner-up finish at this year's NCAA Championships, the best result for the Longhorns since 1994. She previously served as the U.S. women's head coach for the 2017 World University Games. Capitani joined Team USA as an assistant coach for the U.S. women's team at the 2016 FINA Short Course World Championships in Windsor, Ontario and served previous stints as an assistant coach for the U.S. at the World University Games in 2011 and 2013. She was the head coach for the U.S. women at the 2013 Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool, as well.
Three current Longhorn swimmers will be competing at the championships. Carson Foster will race in the 200-meter and 400-meter individual medleys, as well as the 4x200-meter freestyle relay. Drew Kibler will compete in the 200-meter freestyle and on the 4x100-meter freestyle, while Coby Carrozza will take part in the 4x200-meter relay.
