The Colorado Rockies have agreed trade star third baseman Nolan Arenado to the St. Louis Cardinals, according to a source close to the deal.
The deal to St. Louis finally ends the rocky relationship between Arenado and Rockies GM Jeff Bridich. Saying goodbye was hard for fans, below is how Twitter reacted to the news.

News: #Rockies trade Nolan Arenado to Cardinals for a bunch of no-name prospects + give St. Louis $50M
Views: Definitely a new low for the club… a total fleece… GM Jeff Bridich trades away the best player in franchise history in the middle of his prime. For basically nothing

Nolan Arenado being traded hurts my soul. #Rockies pic.twitter.com/le8NFkaHoN

I thought the @MountainWest had bad leadership….
Hold my beer… @Rockies

Will wait to see final details of this trade, but Jeff Bridich should be fired for chasing off arguably the best player in #Rockies history. But Monfort signed off on it. So there’s the bigger problem. @DenverChannel

Have sources confirmed that the Party Deck was not included in the trade package?

Somehow I don’t think they’re gonna make a movie about the 2021 @Rockies
But this scene remains apropos. pic.twitter.com/ZCTYv3wR0Q

That haphazard beard and perfectly trimmed mustache should be the face of baseball. At least now he'll get a chance to be. #Denver7 pic.twitter.com/iOIhD4qKyX

Yeah, sure. The front office that alienated both Nolan Arenado and DJ LeMahieu while signing Ian Desmond and Daniel Murphy are somehow capable of mimicking the Rays’ model… pic.twitter.com/P4El3Mj7NI

Welp, the #Rockies are about to be the worst team in baseball without Nolan Arenado. At least they have Story! For now….

If this is all the Rockies are getting for Nolan Arenado, their decision to not trade him last winter looks absolutely terrible.
— Matt Schubert (@MattDSchubert) January 30, 2021
I don’t have to say anything. If you have ever heard me talk on Rox I give my perspective. There is no way around it, this trade will never be perceived well. Rox will have to see impact from minor league system, add the right FA or it will be a disaster. https://t.co/OW02AN2yo0

At least the Rockies still have Dinger.
— Benjamin Hochman (@hochman) January 30, 2021
Don’t worry though, Coors will still be filled when fans are allowed back in cause they don’t know any better.
— Drew Spevak (@DrewSpevak) January 30, 2021
The Rockies are gonna pay the Cardinals $50 million to take the greatest player in franchise history off of their hands.
Think about that sentence.
— Zach Bye (@byesline) January 30, 2021
Too bad Harry Carey isn’t still doing Cards games. “And that brings Nelson Arandito to the plate!”
— Jim Benemann (@jimbcbs4) January 30, 2021
gonna need to change the advertising for mcgregor square…
hey colorado, might not have a competent baseball franchise but we have this new mixed use space so there's that! pic.twitter.com/Sf1SnNlh3i

The #STLCards are not giving up any of their top 5 prospects in the trade. Their top prospect likely would be OF Jhon Torres, their No. 9 prospect.
— Bob Nightengale (@BNightengale) January 30, 2021
So the Rockies are sending Arenado and $50M to St. Louis and not getting back a prospect who ranks in the MLB Top 100, of which the Cards have 3?
With Bridich, I guess this makes sense.— Mike Brohard (@mbrohard) January 30, 2021
Bridich stays. Nolan goes. Why the #stlcardinals are the #stlcardinals. And why the #Rockies are the #Rockies. Still. #MLB https://t.co/Vw85zGj5eV

I’m just sad.
I go to Coors Field 10-20 times a year in a normal summer. Usually with my daughter. Watching Nolan Arenado play and blossom on those gorgeous days has been a treat, to know that few — if any — played third base better.
My Colorado summers won’t be the same.

St. Louis Cardinals third basemen have won 12 Gold Gloves since the awards inception in 1957.

Really? Really?? Really??????? I tried to love you Rockies, we may need some time apart. It’s not me, it’s you. pic.twitter.com/8b9Q8AIVmM

Jeff Bridich inherited an infield that included Troy Tulowitzki, Nolan Arenado and DJ LeMahieu. He managed to piss off and lose all 3 of them. At this point, it's clear to everybody but Dick Monfort that he is the common denominator and needs to have his ass shipped to the curb!
— Matt Gross (@MattGross87) January 30, 2021
Yeah, if I were a Rockies fan, I would just want some transparency. The GM explaining the trade, explaining the plan, explaining why he thinks the team is in good hands. I lived there for 8 years. There are some passionate Rockies fans. They deserve that respect from the team.
