DURHAM – In the final event of the fall season, the Duke softball program engaged in the annual fall world series, as team black took on team blue in an intrasquad scrimmage. The two teams proved equally matched, with the game ending in a 5-5 tie after extra innings.

Both teams were picked by graduate student Peyton St. George and senior Shelby Walters, who each pitched four innings as the starters in the circle.

The blue team was quick to jump ahead, when senior Caroline Jacobsen drove in the opening run on an RBI single in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. Team black bounced back in the fourth inning, as senior Kristina Foreman drove in a run on another RBI single to tie the game at 1-1.

After a single and a double from seniors Kyla Morris and Deja Davis, team black played small ball to add two more runs. An RBI groundout by graduate student Rachel Crabtree brought home one run, while another came home after an attempt to complete a strikeout on graduate student Jameson Kavel, making it 3-1.

Once again, team blue matched team black with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to extra innings. Another RBI groundout, this time from sophomore Kelly Torres, shaved the deficit to one. Jacobsen would tie the game with her second RBI of the day to keep the game rolling.

The two sides would trade one run apiece in the eighth and ninth innings before the game was concluded. With a runner starting on second base in the eighth, Davis launched an RBI double into left center field to give team black a 4-3 edge. Right on cue, freshman Taylor Krapf delivered an RBI single for team blue in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game.

Adding stakes with runners on second and third base to start the ninth, sophomore pitcher Jala Wright navigated trouble with the bases loaded and no one out. Despite a run coming home on a Foreman sacrifice fly, Wright got two outs when another runner was caught breaking for home. She finished off the day with a strikeout, finishing with six strikeouts over five innings of relief.

Freshman Kennedy Barron would tie the game in the bottom of the ninth, on a fielder's choice and team blue would have a final chance to take the lead with runners on first and second with one out. Sophomore Lillie Walker would hold on in the circle, getting two fly outs to end the scrimmage in a 5-5 tie.
