Saturday's final session of the Prefontaine Classic at Hayward Field featured eight meet records, six world-leading marks and two American records as the venue capped its first year of competition since being reimagined with a memorable afternoon of action.

Teenage sensation and Tokyo Olympic gold medalist Athing Mu won the 800 meters in an American record time of 1:55.04, with Olympic bronze medalist Raevyn Rogers taking fourth in 1:58.01 and her fellow Oregon alum Sabrina Southerland crossing in 2:01.87. Ryan Crouser and Dalilah Muhammed also established new American records, with Crouser putting the shot 75 feet, 11.5 inches and Muhammed winning the 400 hurdles in 52.77.

Crouser's shot put mark was a Diamond League record. Elaine Thompson-Herah set another in leading Jamaica to a 1-2-3 sweep of the 100 meters in 10.54 seconds, and Jakob Ingebrigtsen also set a Diamond League record by winning the Bowerman Mile in 3:47.24.

Rogers and Southerland were two of the seven UO alums in action Saturday. Jenna Prandini was fourth in the 200 meters in 22.36, Cravon Gillespie was ninth in the 100 in 10.09 and Matthew Centrowitz was ninth in the mile in 3:53.32. Jessica Hull ran the 1,500 in 4:05.4, while Kyree King was eliminated from the 200 after a false start.

Saturday's session of the Prefontaine Classic followed Friday's evening program that featured Francine Niyonsaba's meet record 9:00.75 in the 2-mile race, along with a formal opening ceremony for the reimagined venue, which will host the 2022 World Championships. That promises to be an unforgettable event, and the Pre Classic's parade of star performers was a worthy preview.

Saturday's also featured meet records from Norah Jeruto in the steeplechase (8:53.56), Noah Lyles in the 200 (19.52), Joshua Cheptegei over 2 miles (8:09.55) and Faith Kipyegon in the 1,500 (3:53.23). The second American record of the meet was from Courtney Frerichs, who took second in the steeplechase in 8:57.77.
