From the California coast, to Chicago, New York, Israel and the Vatican, Christians all over the globe celebrated Easter Sunday despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Many churches allowed parishioners, but at limited capacity and socially distanced, while outdoor sunrise services enabled more people to attend safely. In New York City, the annual Easter Parade and Bonnet Festival on Fifth Avenue went virtual for the second year, while COVID-19 safety protocols were in place for Sunday’s Mass at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral.

Pope Francis celebrated Easter Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica, while a mass was led by the Latin Patriarch at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, where many Christians believe Jesus was crucified, buried and rose from the dead in the Old City of Jerusalem.
