ARDMORE, Oklahoma (KXII) - Cutting horse competitors made one of their last stops in Ardmore this weekend before preparing for a world championship.

The World Cutting Horse Association hosted a cattle herding competition that brought riders from all over to the Hardy Murphy Coliseum.

Kids and adults competed for cash prizes, and the event was free to the public.

Judge Tommy Marvin says this is one of the last stops for competitors to earn qualifying points for a world championship slated for October.

He says qualifying points are earned based on each person’s control of their horse.

”They get one cow by itself, and then it’s up to the horse to mirror the cow and to keep it away from the herd,” said WCHA Judge Tommy Marvin.

Organizers say the championship will be held in either Ardmore or somewhere in Texas.
