JAKARTA, Indonesia

The number of coronavirus cases in Southeast Asian countries climbed to 225,955 on Wednesday, including 6,519 fatalities and 131,075 recoveries.

A total of 3,813 new cases and 145 deaths were recorded over the past 24 hours in member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

Indonesia, the worst-hit in the region, saw a rise in virus cases with 1,882 new infections, bringing the total to 91,751.

The country’s death toll climbed to 4,459 with 139 more fatalities, the highest addition so far, while recoveries rose by 1,789 to reach the total of 50,255.

The number of confirmed cases in the Philippines surged to 72,269 after the country recorded 1,594 new cases over the past day.

The death toll increased to 1,843 after six more fatalities were confirmed, while recoveries reached 23,623 with 342 additions.

Thailand reported six new COVID-19 cases – all people who arrived from overseas – bringing the total to 3,261.

The number of recoveries in the country has reached 3,105, while the death toll stands at 58.

Singapore recorded 310 new infections, bringing the tally to 48,744.

In Malaysia, 16 more cases pushed the total to 8,831.

Recoveries in the country reached 8,566, while the death toll remained unchanged at 123.

Vietnam reported five more COVID-19 cases, bringing the total infections to 401, with 365 recoveries so far.

There were no reports of new infections or fatalities in Brunei Darussalam, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar.
