End of the world? Mayan calendar now predicts doomsday could be next week - PennLive

Doomsday theorists were once convinced the world would end on Dec. 21, 2012. Apparently, the reading of the Mayan calendar was incorrect, so this is your one-week warning.

A report in The New York Post states that a recent conspiracy theory on Twitter is predicting doomsday for next Sunday, June 21.

Scientist Paolo Tagalogun issed a series of tweets, which have since been deleted, saying that using the “Julian Calendar” technically has the world in 2012 at the moment.

That would answer the question of why the Mayans’ prediction was off by 8 years and change.

“Following the Julian Calendar, we are technically in 2012 … The number of days lost in a year due to the shift into Gregorian Calendar is 11 days… For 268 years using the Gregorian Calendar (1752-2020) times 11 days = 2,948 days. 2,948 days/365 days (per year) = 8 years,” Tagaloguin said via Twitter.

It’s unknown if believers are planning to visit Mayan sites in Mexico and Guatemala, as many did in 2012, but you might want to at least finish that deck.
